About Jimmy

James “Jimmy” Blake is Vice President of Global Cyber Resiliency Strategy, Response & Consulting Services at Cohesity, where he helps organisations strengthen operational resilience across both traditional business continuity and disaster recovery scenarios, as well as destructive cyberattacks. His work sits at the intersection of cyber resilience, incident response, recovery strategy, and the secure adoption of emerging technologies, including AI.

For nearly a decade, Jimmy has been at the forefront of expanding the role of modern data management platforms beyond backup and recovery into governance, digital forensics, incident response and cyber resiliency operations. He is a frequent conference speaker, white paper author, and media commentator on cyber resilience, ransomware, operational recovery, and security strategy.

At Cohesity, Jimmy helps shape cyber resiliency product direction, leads the company’s Cyber Event Response Team (CERT), and heads its proactive cyber resiliency consulting practice. CERT provides 24/7 support to organisations responding to and recovering from destructive cyberattacks, while the consulting team helps customers build the operational capability needed to recover to a trusted state, not simply restore systems quickly. In these roles, Jimmy works closely with some of the world’s largest commercial and public sector organisations.

Jimmy is also an Advisory Board Member for the South West of England Technology Cluster, where he supports efforts to connect, promote, and strengthen the regional technology sector across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Bristol, and Gloucestershire.

Before joining Cohesity, Jimmy was responsible for establishing the Field CISO function at Rubrik and served as Global Cyber Resiliency Strategist at ServiceNow. There, he worked with CISOs and senior executives around the world on cyber risk, operating model design, and large-scale security transformation programmes, combining strategic direction with practical execution.

Earlier in his career, Jimmy was Global Consulting Strategist for Micro Focus Cyber Defense Consulting, now part of OpenText, where he led the design and oversight of consulting engagements for enterprise, defence, and government clients. His work covered areas including big data management and analytics, secure software development, cyber detection and response, threat hunting, deception, machine learning, and security operations transformation.

Prior to that, Jimmy was Director of Global Cyber Security Transformation at JPMorgan Chase, where he was responsible for maturing the operational cyber capability for the bank spanning threat intelligence, detection, analytics, hunting, triage and incident response. He also sat on the bank’s Technical Advisory Board, helping direct all technology decisions.

He also build and led the HP Enterprise Security Intelligence & Operations Consulting (SIOC) practice, one of the industry’s most established teams for building and transforming security operations, threat intelligence, intrusion analysis and incident response capabilities for global enterprise, government, and defence customers. HPE SIOC built over 91 end-to-end Security Operations Centres for the World’s largest companies, governments and defence departments.

Jimmy also served as Chief Information Security Officer at Mimecast during a period of rapid international growth, overseeing the security of more than one million subscribers’ data across multiple data centres and offices on four continents. Earlier still, he spent over 15 years in operational and consulting roles focused on information assurance in defence environments and technology leadership in the pharmaceutical services sector.

In 2009, Jimmy co-founded Security BSides London, now one of the UK’s largest annual information security conferences. He also served as the inaugural regional chair for the UK National Cyber Security Centre’s Cyber Information Sharing Partnership in the South West. In addition, he advises a number of commercial and non-profit organisations on cyber security and resilience.

Jimmy is a regular contributor across radio, television, podcasts, and industry events, and has presented internationally on topics ranging from ransomware and operational cyber resilience to incident response and recovery.
